Are you considering an enterprise wide (multi-site) software deployment? When people think about deploying applications on site, they need to decide where the edge compute is going to be located, who is going to be responsible for configuring and maintaining it, and how it is going to integrate with their existing automation architecture. All of this creates overhead requirements on site. Deploying a multi-site solution like the Plantweb Insight IoT Connectivity Solution takes the configuration and maintenance burden off the site teams and allows users to maintain the application from a single location. This type of solution eliminates the DCS bottleneck, as it is not a DCS-centric architecture. This allows users to deploy software applications on demand with minimal engineering effort.

For over 75 years, gas-powered actuation has been the staple technology for local, remote, and automatic control of gas pipeline shutdown valves. Still today, the ideal source of power is the available pressurized gas in the pipeline itself because electrical power or compressed area is often not readily available. By design, a gas-powered actuator taps into that power source, but older designs emit gas with every stroke. Recent methane emission regulations and reduction targets have spurred the development of a zero-emission power system designed for high-pressure, gas-powered actuators.

Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence (AI). When it comes to vibration analysis, there are often unrealistic expectations both about what AI can do and what we really need it to do. In this presentation, we will break down the steps taken by an analyst doing vibration analysis and how AI works to replicate that process. We will specifically look at the three methodologies commonly used in AI: Rule-based Systems, Statistics-based Systems, and Machine Learning. We will apply the three methodologies to real world case histories looking at how the real data would be evaluated. We will also address the difference between route data, which is highly repeatable, and online and wireless data, which is taken under differing process conditions; and what is needed for AI to be successful.

Cloud solutions are no longer uncharted territory for industrial end-users. IT organizations have successfully transitioned on-premise solutions to the cloud for years and have realized the ROI that justifies further action in other spaces, namely OT. OT cloud solutions have some of the same requirements as IT, but the cybersecurity implications of moving data from the plant network to the cloud necessitates additional scrutiny and on-going support. Additional conversations around Private vs Public Cloud will help land on the appropriate deployment. It is also important to determine what functionality needs to live on the Edge, in the plant, where real-time insights need to be actioned to have the highest positive impact.

Change is an inevitable part of business, whether going through a minor restructure or an organization is embarking on their own digital transformation. Leaders play a critical role in any organizational change and navigating a team effectively through the change can be one of the most significant challenges leaders face. The Human Capital Institute reports that 77% of leaders report their organization is in a state of constant change, but many of these change initiatives fail. The human and financial costs associated with a failed change initiative can slow productivity and instill mistrust in leadership. Having a plan of how to coach employees through change can turn the tide and allow for an outcome where employees understand and embrace the changes within the organization.
