Emerson's industrial software platform designed to protect SCADA systems against cyber attacks
As users and OEMs know, the rapid growth of IIoT has prompted the increasing connectivity of industrial automation and control systems (IACS) used in manufacturing and process facilities and this increased connectivity has also increased vulnerability. Over time, manufacturers and operators of IACS and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems have reported increasing cases of cyberattacks on their systems. To overcome this issue, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has published the IEC 62443 series of standards and technical reports. IEC 62443 concentrates on the protection of IACS information, devices and systems, typically used in industries and in infrastructure control systems, providing organisations with a flexible framework to address and mitigate current and future security vulnerabilities.
Movicon.NExT is Emerson’s innovative and flexible industrial software platform for SCADA systems and Windows/Linux HMI, control, historian and manufacturing execution system (MES) analysis projects. In a recently published white paper, Industrial Security in SCADA Systems: IEC 62443-3-3 Certification, Emerson explains IEC 62443 and its procedures, and provides some guidelines for making projects based on the Movicon.NExT platform compliant with the specifications defined in the standard.
